Interesting fact: Dotun was initially drawn to music through his love of singing hymns in church. He comes from a family of music lovers – his father was the church choirmaster when Dotun was a child and his brother Shola Bankole is also a musician.

Professional career: Dotun has been playing music professionally for the past 13yrs. He decided to opt for the saxophone as his instrument of choice after he lost his trumpet. His dogged determination to master how to play the saxophone saw him practicing for twelve hours a day for six months straight until he felt he was as proficient as other musicians around him. He decided to gain further knowledge studying music at the Peter King School of music and at the Lagos State University (LASU). He has been performing with Bantu for several years in tandem with his integral role in Femi Kuti’s band ‘Positive Force’. Prior to this, he gained invaluable experience playing in the Steve Rhodes Orchestra. Dotun’s career has taken him on travels all over the world and he particularly loves Europe and the USA.

Favourite musicians: John Coltrane and Miles Davis.
Future plans: He composes and has recorded some of his own music, which he hopes to release soon.
